KARE Collective is a Sacramento-based future soul trio. Their combination of electronic production and intimate, introspective lyrics from brothers Duskaftrdawn and Yeshahyah Yisrael are combined with Afro Pastel’s vocals. The group works to coordinate self-care efforts in the Sacramento community through workshops and community events with the Sol Life Media team, out of the Sol Collective Arts and Cultural Center.

The track “Words of Wanting” produced by Duskaftrdawn, begins with a Rhodes melody intertwined with old school vinyl hissing and cracking, setting the tone. Duskaftrdawn’s comes in, half singing, half rapping his introduction to the narrative.

Yeshahyah takes over with an emotional and poignant spoken word piece. He speaks on young love, reckless abandon, teen pregnancy, difficult choices, and regret. The story is told from every perspective, a conversation between an almost-father and his unborn daughter, with Key’s vocals filling in the background.

The song ultimately demonstrates the young crew’s depth and devotion to the kind of healing vulnerability they teach in their workshops.
