Bacchus by Ana Bathe

I am a self-taught, Berlin-based, Belgrade-born artist specializing in self portraits that are often inspired by political and social issues. A prevailing theme in my work is the merging point of gender, blurring the lines between masculine and feminine, aiming to spark a dialogue about body politics, censorship, and the role of gender. The works submitted were made between 2014 and 2017 and have thus far explored an analysis of sexual identity through color, exploration of gender ambiguity through nudity, and the ever-changing role of religion within our society. The color pink, in it’s many nuances, often appears in my work due to it’s interesting history — having been considered a male color in the past and being considered the ultimate feminine color nowadays. It is both soft and soothing, but it can also be a powerful statement.
